Congo, the paradise of gorillas

Black Africa hides in its entrails one of the richest corners of our planet. A spot that can be seen if you fly over the Democratic Republic of the Congo: a spectacular vegetation of two million square kilometers. This immense jungle transcends the borders of seven African countries. Next to the Amazon, the largest in the

world. The territory of the Congo is crossed by the equator, one third of which is located in the southern hemisphere, the other two thirds in the northern hemisphere. That’s why the annual amount of rainfall in the area is particularly high. This climate guarantees the survival of the humid forest of the equator. To enter the

forest is to immerse yourself in the kingdom of biodiversity. Birds, insects, reptiles, trees and plants. The Jungle also provides protection to mammals of both large and small size.

Under the protection of this lush landscape live the monkeys, chimpanzees and gorillas of many species. These are the gorillas of the Western Plain. According to recent studies, 125,000 gorillas live in the Congolese forests, double what scientists expected to find. Gorillas are nomads who need large territories to live. In the Congo in particular, they have been found to be distributed over an area of 47,000 square kilometres.they live in groups of 5 to 30 members, each group headed by an adult male. They feed on fruits and vegetables and reproduce every three or four years. They have no

enemies in the jungle. The human being is their main enemy. Deforestation, reduced residence, and hunting by humans for food or cultural reasons are the main reasons for the reduction of the species. It is only one of the 634 endangered primate species in the world.
