Dietonhealth, health at home

New technologies help us on a daily basis, but now they can also have a direct relationship with the management of our health. This is the purpose of the project called Dietonhealth. This project, led by Fagor and supported by Mondragon Unibertsitatea, uses the latest communication technologies to better manage our health. Using the Internet, wireless networks and smartphones, we can keep up with our health from home.

Nowadays, shopping, having contact with friends or traveling without getting off the couch is not something new, thanks to new communication technologies. To these tasks, the dietonhealth project now wants to add self-care and health management. Our protagonist transmits the data to a collector, in this case a tablet. The information it generates on a daily basis is stored on the platform, so that it can be tracked.

Jorge de Antonio; FAGOR: We use standard devices with wireless communication capabilities, which are already on the market, and what we do is put a minicomputer at home with the ability to collect data via bluetooth. Then we upload all the information collected through the Internet to the platform. There, experts can make a diagnosis, and other support services include nutritionists, physical trainers, psychologists,...

dietonhealth is more than just an internet site. As we have seen, you can access the tips you have, participate in social media communities, or attach devices. For example, sugar meters, saturometers to know the oxygen level or the tensiometer used by our protagonist. He's got some hypertension, and he's got that parameter under control, too. The devices are not made by Fagor, which designs the necessary drivers or software to be able to integrate them into the system and send information to the platform. The tension is fine.

Jorge de Antonio; FAGOR: It is designed in principle for any healthy person who is concerned about their health, but it is especially suitable for anyone with a chronic disease, such as those with diabetes.

On this route, a monitoring and follow-up attempt has just been made in Madrid with a group that had cardiovascular problems. Although having a relatively high blood pressure is not a serious illness, the dietonhealth system takes it into account: it proposes a weekly diet plan and physical activity based on these factors. The diet also dictates the completion of the shopping list.

Over time, an extensive medical history is formed with the data that the user generates on a daily basis. Absolutely useful information to monitor health incidents and take the necessary measures. The Dietonhealth platform is designed to be used in an open way, that is, in a way that allows the creation of new services based on information. But for this to happen, everyone has to use the same language: new devices, the data store on the platform and those who want to use this information. Thanks to the interoperability layer created by Mondragon Unibertsitatea, interchange is possible.

Urtzi Markiegi; Mondragon Unibertsitatea: This question of interoperability allows a person to receive data as we have seen, our character can receive weight, tension, and other data, and can exchange all that data he receives with other platforms. If, after receiving the data, you go to your doctor in the hospital, apart from the data that you already have in the hospital, thanks to our layer and platform you can see all its history, so that the doctor can give you more detailed advice.

Interoperabilitate-geruzak ahalbidetuko luke gailu berriak sisteman integratzea, lengoaia bera dutelako. Other uses based on Dietonhealth can also be developed by anyone outside the platform. For example, it could be the starting point for public or private health services, or for new applications for smartphones that are so fashionable. The market is there.

Urtzi Markiegi; Mondragon Unibertsitatea: How is this possible? It is possible because we use a standard language, and this layer somehow translates information into that standard language, and other systems can understand that.

Jorge de Antonio; FAGOR: This information can then be viewed from the website or used through smart phones, tablets and similar devices. Our goal is to make the information available from anywhere.

The possibilities offered by the platform are wide, but the project is not yet in force: All the services we have recorded at Fagor de Mondragón will be available at the end of the year.
