Relapse into addiction; More accurate than the atomic clock; Thanks to a hair; Watch out for the sun beds
According to a new
study, molecules called hypocretins play an important role in the risk of relapse to tobacco dependence. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Hypocretins are a series of neuromodulators present in neurons of the hypothalamus of the brain and, as has been recently discovered, are associated with mechanisms of addiction and senescence. It has been shown that excessive activity of hypocretins can trigger a state of anxiety and lead to a relapse in the consumption of substances that cause addiction. The study was conducted at the Pompeu Fabra University and published in the Journal of Neuroscience.
MORE ACCURATE THAN THE ATOMIC CLOCK The clock called Uantum
Logic could become a reference for measuring time and take the place of traditional atomic clocks. Conventional atomic clocks have a phase shift of one second every 30,000 years. The Quantum Logic watch, on the other hand, would have this offset every 3.7 billion years. Conventional atomic clocks define the second according to the vibration of a cesium atom, and Quantum Logic defines the second according to the vibration of an aluminum ion. The new watch has been developed by the National Institute of Standard and Technology in the United States.
THANKS TO ONE HAIR A
study carried out by a group of scientists from the Animarca has revealed several characteristics of a man who lived in Greenland 4000 years ago. To do the work, researchers have used a sample of hair found in northern Greenland in the 1980s. The genetic material has been extracted and the whole genome has been completed. This has allowed scientists to discover that the man had brown eyes, dark hair and skin, and a hairy face, and was becoming bald. The hair belonged to a man of the Saqqaq culture, the first humans to live on the ice island.
ATTENTION TO THE SUN
BEDS An inspection in 10 Member States of the European Union has shown that sun beds can be more harmful than expected. In one of the seven beds examined, the level of ultraviolet radiation was above safety limits. The inspection has also revealed a lack of information on the possible risks of radiation and the prohibition of the use of these services by minors. A total of 550 solar beds have been studied in 350 cities.
