#33 ULTRAVIOLET WAVES: The market against health
It is well known that the health and care we receive from health services are directly affected by gender, including sex, origin, age, place of residence, socioeconomic status, educational level, and legal status. They are social determinants of health. But there are also more conditions that affect the health of the population, such as the pressure exerted on the population by large producers and markets.
There is less talk of these commercial determinants, but the pressure of industry and market laws are also agents on health, although they are often hidden. These have been brought to light, therefore, in this section of Ultra Violet Waves, by Alaitz Ochoa de Eribe and Ana Galarraga Aiestarán, starting with the most famous example. Such as tobacco and alcohol. But there is also something to be said about formula milk for newborns and the expectation manuals for psychiatric diagnoses.
Ultra Violet Waves is produced by Elhuyar for the podkast EITB.
