The hurricane season arrives
2001/06/04 Elhuyar Zientzia
On Friday, June 1, the hurricane season officially began. In this season 8-11 tropical storms, 5-7 hurricanes and 2-3 very strong hurricanes are expected and their name is expected.
Hurricanes are formed in waters of tropical seas above 27ºC. By condensing the humid air over these zones, due to atmospheric instability, it begins to turn in the northern hemisphere in the opposite direction to the clock needles. The main aquatic zones in the world are the western Atlantic, the Pacific and the Indian, almost completely between the parallels 30ºN and 30ºS. Besides these parallels there are usually no hurricanes, nor between latitudes 5º N and 5º S.
Hurricanes are natural phenomena that cannot be avoided or prevented. Man cannot divert the hurricane. But it is not difficult to get that the consequences, especially the death, and in part also the material damage, are not so serious, provided that the population reports beforehand and with the necessary time and security measures are correct. To do this, the first thing to do is know where the hurricane will form, how it will move and how it will behave, follow up and predict its trajectory and evolution. Many meteorologists and scientists work on it.
