Cosmic shock

2005/06/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

NASA's Swift satellite has recently detected an explosion of gamma rays. Since the Big Bang, gamma ray explosions are the largest in the universe and scientists are unclear about their origin. Now, however, they believe it has been caused by the clash of two neutron stars. The explosion has occurred in a galaxy located three million light years ago, and it is noteworthy that a fusion of neutron stars so far has never been detected.
