Snow perennials and without treading, peaks of more than 4,000 meters, glaciers and valleys. The Jung-Aletsch-Bietschhorn region is one of the most fascinating landscapes of the Swiss Alps. It is located in the cantons of Bern and Valais.

Covering 54,000 hectares, it has been part of UNESCO's list of natural heritage sites since 2001. Its beauty, its diversity of alpine fauna and flora and its geological richness are the reasons that have led this area to this strip. There is the largest glacier in Europe. It is born in the Aletsch massif and runs under snowy peaks along km 23. It has an ice sheet of 900 meters deep.

95% of this region is virgin, only 5% has been transformed by man. This section has enabled pedestrian trails, ski slopes and chairlifts. And a spectacular scientific station opened ten years ago: Sphinx Observatory. In this small building, at 3,500 meters high, scientists investigate the progression of glaciers, the consequences of climate change and environmental physics. In Europe there are no buildings built at such height.

In winter the snow wears white valleys and in spring they present a bright green color. The Jungfraubhan train, however, is part of the landscape for four seasons. Not even the most violent snow storm would be the XIX. Paralysis of the engineering work of the twentieth century.

The railroad is a reflection of the spirit of the time it was built. It was built in 1896, during the rise of romanticism and the exaltation of nature. In those years people began to hear for the first time the stories that travellers narrated about miracles of nature, waterfalls and glaciers. The appearance in Switzerland of the first tourists traveling to the mountains prompted the development of the region. Thus the railway project was born. The train starts its journey at 2,000 meters high and goes up to 3,500 meters to Jungfrauchum station. It is the highest train station in Europe.
