The Polymer Science and Technology Department of the Faculty of Chemistry of San Sebastian (UPV/EHU) and the Finnish company Sofine Plastics Oy have jointly developed a polymer selection software. The database brings together more than 6,000 thermoplastics, rubbers and thermosets and is adapted to the Spanish market, with instructions in Spanish. This commercial program, aimed at producers of polymers and especially transformers, is also presented in Germany, France and England.

Two versions of the program are offered: Windows and MS-DOS. For the first version of the Windows 3.1 system and a margin of 5 MB is required, while for the MS-DOS version a version of 3 MB is required. This software can be used in two ways: knowing the name of the polymer to know its characteristics and selecting a polymer with special characteristics.

The eligible properties are more than 40, including mechanical, dielectric, thermal, etc. In addition to offering these properties, it offers processing methods, loading and additives, product presentation, price and manufacturer address.
