Reversible physical properties

2000/05/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

Two researchers at the University of California have synthesized material capable of reversing the usual physical properties.

In 1968 the Russian researcher Victor Veselago captured a material that responded differently to the electromagnetic field. Veselago's studies were theoretical, since there was no such material.

California researchers have synthesized this material, consisting of fine copper rings joined in parallel. The new material has negative values of permeability and permittivity and reverses the Doppler effect, that is, if the sound that is going through this material is moving away, we will hear higher and if it is approaching lower. According to researchers, this type of property can be applied on telecommunications satellites
