Giant waves more frequent than expected in open sea

In the oceanographic research boat Discovery, British researchers measured in 2000 waves up to 29 meters high. They are the biggest waves ever measured at sea. At 250 km west of the Scottish coast, when it was captured by the storm. According to these experts, the brave sea is a typical area and, probably, this type of waves will be more frequent than expected.

The data is interesting, since in the design of the ships and marine structures it is normally estimated that they will have to face waves of up to 15 meters of height.
