1 minute error for 10 billion years

NASA presents a precision ionic watch: It measures 10,000 million years with a one-minute error. Atomic clocks, based on ions and the laws of quantum physics, are used, among others, in long space travel and in the GPS system. In the new watch, the ions, instead of being protected by a bell, are immersed in them. In conventional watches ions collide against the bell and, if changes occur, the watch loses precision.
