Smooth and long, peppers chosen

NEIKER-Tecnalia launched in 1999 a selection program for roasting peppers. The objective of this program was to analyze the varieties of coarse pulp peppers from Bizkaia and select the best lines based on their productivity, homogeneity and characteristics required by the local market. Thus, two new varieties of peppers have been registered: Soft and Long.
Both varieties of peppers can be of interest to farmers as complementary crops. In fact, in the greenhouses of Bizkaia there are very few species (Gernika pepper, tomato and lettuce) and in some times of the year it can provoke the occupation of the market and the drop in prices. In addition, Luzea and Lila require less labor than Gernika pepper (two workers per hectare and day, and not nine).
