First protein plaques, then Alzheimer's disease

Beta-amyloid plaques appear in the brain of people with Alzheimer's. But so far it was not clear whether or not protein plaques are responsible for the disease. In a mouse research, scientists have clarified this doubt. They find that protein plaques destroy brain cells. Mice have been mutated to form beta-amyloid plates in the brain. Two weeks after the formation of plaques, neurons begin to gradually deform.
