You can get a 60 watt incandescent bulb to emit the same light as a 100 watt bulb emitting the laser pulses of a tungsten femtosecond strand. This has been achieved by researchers from the Rochester University of New York State. It is explained that the laser beams are able to melt the metal with its heat, but if the duration of the laser pulses is very small, only the metal molecules are reordered without coming to melt. With the new molecular arrangement, tungsten provides much more light without consuming more electricity. Somehow, tungsten is tanned and increases its ability to receive and emit radiation.
