Saturday will take place in Bilbao the Zientzia Azoka

Zientzia Azoka has three main objectives: to promote the taste for science among young people, to promote scientific culture and to spread science. One of its peculiarities is that for the realization of these projects the students have had the collaboration of professional researchers of the most representative organizations of the Basque Network of Science and Technology, as the UPV/EHU, the Public University of Navarra, Deustotech and Mondragon Unibertsitatea, the technological corporations TECNALIA and IK4 and the center BTEK.

In addition, Zientzia Azoka has the collaboration of other entities: Bilbao City Council, Department of Education, Linguistic Policy and Culture of the Basque Government, Bizkaia Provincial Council and FECYT (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology).

Young researchers

This year there are 65 groups that will present their scientific projects, highlighting the effort, interest and participation of all of them in today's presentation of the Director of Educational Innovation of the Basque Government, Begoña Garamendi. “The Department of Education will continue to collaborate with Elhuyar in the promotion of scientific and technological capacity and the undertaking of students, as well as in the promotion of specific calls and collaboration agreements of the Directorate of Educational Innovation.

On behalf of the City Council of Bilbao, Jone Unzueta Crespo, delegated councillor of the Participation and Districts area of the City Council of Bilbao and delegated councillor of Education, invited the Science Fair and highlighted the importance that the City Council of Bilbao gives to science and research.

In this regard, the General Director of Elhuyar, Leire Cancio, highlighted the need for communication channels between young people and researchers and thanked the universities and technology centers that have supported this project.

With them, the young Bilbao researcher Beñat Insunza participated. Isunza was present in the last edition of Zientzia Azoka and was chosen to represent Euskadi in the XVI Exporecerca Jove Fair of Catalonia. The XVI Exporecerca Jove Fair, a benchmark showcase for young scientific research in Spain, has recently been awarded three awards.

Program and spaces of Zientzia Azoka 2015

The Plaza Nueva of Bilbao will host Zientzia Azoka 2015 in four areas: The porticos of the Plaza Nueva, in which will be exposed the works of the 665 groups; the Corner of the Experiments (place of realization of experiments for children and adults); the Area of Practice (space for free experiments) and the scenario where the diplomas and awards will be given.
