New coral species

Marine biologists at the University of Hawaii have discovered seven new coral species of six new genera in deep waters of northwest Hawaii. They are colorful bamboo corals.

The image of the coral was made by a submarine. This coral has no official name yet. However, biologists at the University of Hawaii's Les Watling laboratory have called Slurpisis. On the one hand, it has the form of straw to drink (hence the verb slurp in English, zurrupatu in Basque) and on the other, carries the suffix isis to designate the bamboo corals.
