An international team of researchers has developed a methodology to identify positive turning points for tackling climate change. The work, published openly in the journal Sustainability Science, aims to accelerate the transition to linking the objective agreed in the Paris Convention.
Thus, the method takes into account inflection points that have proven to revolutionize similar systems in the past. I mean, it's based on evidence. In addition, look for products or technologies that will drive the transition. An example of this is the electric car: according to the authors, as people buy electric cars, the more receptive it is to improve performance, price and infrastructures, which in itself means accelerating the transition.
There are technologies or sectors that are not expected to bring change. For example, they do not expect inflexibility, either in nuclear energy or in concrete production.
Other transformations, however, are predicted to be more likely than they appear. Among them is to stop eating meat. In particular, they say that with aid policies, meat-free options can become increasingly cheaper and better. This would affect people’s behavior and could eventually become a turning point for the benefit of climate and health.
Therefore, the team of researchers has established a common framework to find positive inflection points, inviting researchers to help identify them and facilitate their progress.
