Visual recovery has been achieved by means of an intraocular implant

With the implantation of an electronic device in the eye, and the use of augmented reality glasses, they have been able to read patients with visual loss during a clinical session in Europe.

The device is called PRIMA and the experimental session involved 38 patients in 17 hospital centers in five countries. All patients had vision loss due to age-related dry macular degeneration. 84% of them have been able to read numbers and words thanks to the prosthetic device. The results are published in The New England Journal of Medicine.
