IKERLAN celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Since its creation in 1974, the center has worked on research to solve specific problems of companies at the technological and organizational level that allow them to develop and implement their own innovation policies and strategies.

Although the initial project of the center was based on three industrial areas, in which buildings and facilities also conformed to this approach, in 1980 a model of horizontal center based on technologies and with capacity to respond to a multidimensional demand was established. Since October 1998, the operational divisions that group the different areas of specialty of the center are located in IKERLAN-Mecatronics (with the divisions of Electronics and Systems and Technologies of Design and Production) in Arrasate-Mondragón, and in IKERLAN-Energy (with the division of Energy) in Álava, in the Technological Park of Miñano.
