The plane with liquefied natural gas has been introduced in France. The plane is Soviet and is called UA-155.
The gas is stored in a 6m3 nickel steel tank and well insulated. Due to its low density, 0.42 g/cm3, 2.5 tons of methane can be introduced into the tank. Maintain methane at atmospheric pressure and at a temperature below 163ºC. Due to the progressive evaporation of methane, the mixture with air is explosive.
The system installed in the control cabin allows to control at all times the characteristics of the deposit. The gas is transported by a pump and the energy for the pump is provided by a turborreactor. This turborreactor can be fed with methane or kerosene.
The propulsion of this plane with gas is due to the shortage of oil foreseen in the future. In addition, the waste would be water and carbon dioxide, so it can be of ecological interest.
