The number of vehicles circulating on the highways is increasing, and although intelligent traffic control systems are being developed, so far the detectors had several failures. Being optical systems, they are influenced by time and do not work on cloudy or sunny days. In addition, they are easily stained and therefore blinded.
Fraunhofer Institute researchers have used magnetic sensors to detect the speed of vehicles and the type of vehicle. In their work they have been based on the magnetic field of the Earth. In fact, any body or motor compresses the magnetic field and the cerilla box size sensor accurately detects the vehicle passing above or below it. The successive installation of two sensors allows to measure the speed. In addition, in the car parks can replace automatic doors and barriers.
