The ELHUYAR Foundation, member of Alphagalileo

www.alphagalileo.org is a website that makes known European research. The aim of Alphagalileo is to give more importance to the research carried out in Europe and to offer ways to make known the results of these investigations, since most of them come from the United States. Although the project is led by the British Association, they are currently representing many European countries such as: The Suomen Akatemia of Finland, the L Association francaise pour l avmortdes sciences de France, the Centre for Research Forschungszentrum J lich of Germany, the National Hellenic Research Foundation of Greece, the Observatory das Ci ncias e das Tecnologias, the Swedish Institute of Research Science of Academenscouncis.

Alphagalileo is a showcase of research in Europe. In it, researchers have the opportunity to publish their research, and journalists can know them. There are currently 3,771 journalists and 4,723 informers, including the ELHUYAR Foundation. On the web you can consult approximately 10,000 news, 1,300 events and 350 books.

The adhesion of the ELHUYAR Foundation to Alphagalileo will represent the Basque Country. Among our obligations are the compilation of local research news, the dissemination of the service and the translation into Basque and Spanish of the website www.alphagalileo.org. In addition, as a member of the management team of Alphagalileo, the ELHUYAR Foundation will participate in the decisions related to the project. On the other hand, in the short term it is planned to sign an agreement with the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona for the constitution of a Spanish delegation.

The echo of Basque Research in Alphagalileo

The ELHUYAR Foundation, in June 2002, launched the website www.basqueresearch.com Euskal Herriko ikerketa topagune. Along with the Basque Research portal (one of the objectives of Basque Research), the news of Basque research has been sent to Alphagalileo. Several of them have been published on the website www.alphagalileo.org and, from there, have achieved a remarkable echo among the European media. Thus, in December 2002, news from the Public University of Navarra, the investigation of a solar milk cooling system, was the fourth in the statistics of the Alphagalileo of December. On the January 2003 list, Inasmet's intraocular lens study was the second with 198 visitors.

Therefore, beginning in February, the ELHUYAR Foundation will go from being a pioneer in the Alphagalileo project to being a decisive part for Basque research to be able to speak and decide in Europe.
