50 years of the Faculty of Chemistry of the UPV
in 1975, the Faculty of Chemistry of the UPV/EHU was created in San Sebastian. It was first occupied by the building of the Juan XXIII Professional School, located in the old town of the Altza neighborhood, attached to the University of Valladolid. Gonzalo Martín Guzmán, a chemist of recognized prestige in the field of polymer science and technology, was in charge of setting up the Center specialized in Petrochemistry. Later, in September 1979, the district of the University of Bilbao (currently UPV/EHU) was created, to which the public university centers of Gipuzkoa belonged. in 1987, the Faculty moved from the Altza neighborhood to the current building, specifically to Ibaeta, the current Campus of Gipuzkoa.
In this sense, as chemistry and society have changed, the subjects taught and the research carried out in the faculty have undergone a constant evolution. This evolution has been reported separately by two professors and historical researchers of the faculty: Jesus Mari Aizpurua Iparragirre and Jesus Ugalde Uribe Etxebarria.
