The Appropriation of Earth Dinosaurs
2001/06/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria
Some 200 million years ago, in the border years between the Triassic and the Jurassic, most living beings on Earth (between 50 and 80%) disappeared and dinosaurs became the kings of the planet. For some researchers in the United States and Canada, this massive destruction took place in a very short time, in less than 10,000 years. To reach this conclusion, fossils from islands near British Columbia have been analyzed. The main author of the study report is paleontologist Peter Ward, who believes that the fossils analyzed show that the concentration of organic carbon on Earth (the sign that plants are alive) and the number of unicellular organisms that fed numerous marine species declined sharply. However, the reasons for cataclysm are not clear. Among the alternatives is the collision of an asteroid and climate change caused by more volcanic activity than usual. |
