The organization responsible for the technology of diabetes at the University of Ulm, with the help of Deutsche Aerospace, has achieved a prototype that continuously measures the level of blood sugar. If this meter detects a sugar level higher than normal in the blood, it emits a sound.
The device consists of three elements: probe, sensor and evaluation system. Daily the patient introduces a catheter into the stomach, which should remain in it for twenty-four hours. In addition, the patient has a glucose sensor connected to the probe that weighs 800 grams. Each minute the sugar level is measured and is predicted in the wrist clock.
Thanks to this watch, in insulin therapy, high sugar levels are avoided much more easily than with classic methods. System inventors are now miniaturizing the device to make it more comfortable to use.
