Growing capacity DVDs are coming to market. The latest DVD invented by the company Matsushita has broken all brands, as it can store up to 20 times more information than the current DVD.

Using laser technology, the Japanese company has managed to compress 50GB on each side of the DVD, which means a collection of 20 hours of high-quality video. The largest DVDs so far are only able to store 4.7 GB. In order to compress so much information, the Japanese have used ultraviolet rays that accurately collect light in layers of 0.1 nanometers. Houses like Hitachi, Sony and Philips also investigate similar technology.

Despite its enormous capacity, Matsushita's DVD is not yet going to jump into the market. In fact, DVD readers currently on the market are not able to read DVDs burned with blue laser or ultraviolet lights. It seems that a debate on standard DVDs will soon emerge.
