The little one is spectacular

Photos that seek the beauty and complexity of life with the help of the microscope participate in the Nikon Small World competition. They are images that exist between art and science.

This year’s winner has a lot of science. It shows the blood-brain limit of a live zebrafish. The key is this limitation in the case of many neurological functions and diseases. Jennifer Peters and Michael Taylor of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital have developed a transgenic zebrafish to observe and investigate the development of this structure. They have photographed it in three dimensions and grouped it into a single photo, giving it different colors according to its depth.

In addition to the winner, in this gallery you have other photos that have participated in the contest.
