The trees of Mars


These trees at the north pole of Mars have no shade. In fact, they are made of sand and, contrary to what seems at first glance, they don’t grow up, but down the dunes. It's not trees, it's sand falls. As the spring sun melts the carbon dioxide ice, the black sand underneath falls into the dunes.
