The dwarf chameleons

Four new species of chameleons, among the world’s smallest reptiles, have been discovered in northern Madagascar. The smallest of the four species is Brookesia micra; adults are 29 mm long on average, according to researchers in the journal PLoS ONE.

Brookesia micra is found on a small island called Nosy Hara. In fact, it is common in small islands such as these, due to their limited resources, to reduce the size of animals, a phenomenon known as island nanism.
