Why are the wheels of trains conical?

Why are the wheels of trains made of metal and why do they have this particular shape? To find out the reason, we turn to the UPV, the Railway Dynamics research group of the Bilbao School of Engineering. A practical demonstration has been organised with the support of the Bilbao Association of Friends of the Railways so that we can understand the basis of the operation of train wheels.
