Although it mostly concerns us as an aesthetic problem, dandruff is a skin condition that affects 20% of

the population. The new skin, as it grows, pushes the epidermal cells out until they die and fall into tiny scales. In most people, this change occurs on average once a month, and these scales are almost invisible. But in people with dandruff, the rate of cell change is greatly accelerated; dead cells accumulate and fall as white flakes. It is believed

that the dandruff is caused by the overproduction of a fungus that lives on the skin. This fungus feeds on human fat and alters the natural renewal of the cells.

For its treatment, anti-dandruff shampoos use two routes: some contain coal tar, a substance that prevents the division of cells, while others prevent the reproduction of the fungus through the use of antifungals such as selenium sulfide or ketoconazole. Bran is really persistent and it is very difficult to completely destroy it, it usually reappears cyclically, in times of stress and

even in cold winters.
