The submerged lungs
We went into the water with the bottle.

NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: I'd say that almost anyone's biggest dream is to fly and breathe underwater.
ROBERTO SORAZU; Buceo Donosti: I would say both. I've managed to do one, and I'm waiting to do the other.
NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: We can get close to the dream by using bottles.
ROBERTO SORAZU; Buceo Donosti: Today we don’t have a better way, we need autonomous equipment or a bottle for autonomous diving. We put air in the bottle, that air that we breathe in the ground enters the bottle compressed. To make that pressure breathable, we let the pressure down through this machine.
NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: What is the pressure?
ROBERTO SORAZU; Buceo Donosti: at 200 bar. And it reaches the second stage of the pressure that we have around us. The deeper we go, the more pressure we have. The pressure of ten meters is increased by one bar. Therefore, we must add to our pressure in the water the pressure of the air in the earth's crust. So at 10 meters we have 2 bars, at 30 meters we have 4 bars. So this helps us breathe at the required pressure.
NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: I have to admit that until I saw it up close, the vest didn’t pay attention to me. But it looks like it's not a simple vest, it's something else.
ROBERTO SORAZU; Buceo Donosti: Yeah, it's not just to carry the bottle. It gives us comfort because it has the bottle attached, but the vest is deflated and inflated to stand in balance under the water as we wish. The bottle has weight, we also carry weight at the waist, we would sink.
NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: Then can you be in balance at the depth you want?
ROBERTO SORAZU; Buceo Donosti: In balance and without getting tired. Otherwise, you'd have to be constantly shaking the kernels, and it'd be too much effort. We
have air in our lungs, nose and ears, and we have to make up for it. The pressure is crushed and this air must maintain its volume. Then, to compensate, we close the nose with our hands and send the air from the inside to the nose.
NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: It would be a matter of directing the air to the ears.
ROBERTO SORAZU; Buceo Donosti: In this way, the inner ear is compensated by the external pressure. Because what we have to compensate is also the air in the glasses. Our eyes are not made to see in the water, they are made to see in the air, and that is why we put a complete mask with the nose to compensate for that air inside.
NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: Do you notice a lot of this pressure in the glasses at great depth?
ROBERTO SORAZU; Buceo Donosti: No, it's usually fixed by breathing. The most important thing is to do the breathing in sequence.
NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: Another term that we associate with diving is decompression.
ROBERTO SORAZU; Buceo Donosti: Why do we need to decompress? We can't go directly up 20 meters. Because when this compressed air is blown out, it swells. And then there would be a risk of problems in the lungs, in the muscles, anywhere.
NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: So, it’s about going up a little bit.
ROBERTO SORAZU; Buceo Donosti: The important thing is to go slowly as we go up. We don't have to go up fast once. We have to give time to those bubbles in our body so that they will be reduced and we will expel them with the breath.
We use the profundimeter and a computer to see how deep we have. The computer gives us both time and depth. And it also tells us how long we can stay at that depth without risk.
NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: How long does a bottle last? How many are they?
ROBERTO SORAZU; Buceo Donosti: This is, for example, 15 liters. it is 12 and 15 liters. And they last about an hour. It depends on the depth, but if you walk calmly you have it for a little hour.
NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: Does it also depend on the diver?
ROBERTO SORAZU; Buceo Donosti: Yes, it depends on the skill of the diver and the complexion. Women spend less because of their physiology. Tranquility does a lot: tranquility and having many hours of buzeo. It’s like driving: the more you drive, the easier you walk Well, scuba diving, anyway.
NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: In addition, you will always have to leave enough for the turn.
ROBERTO SORAZU; Buceo Donosti: We say for safety. Normally we enter with a pressure of 200 Pa, when it reaches 100 we have to turn around. For example, if we go to the east, when we reach 100 Pa to the east, back to the boat. with 50 we should be at the anchor of the ship.
NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: We can approach our dreams by using bottles, but it is not natural. You have to learn, right?
ROBERTO SORAZU; Buceo Donosti: A course is mandatory. Three or four classes are given, then you go to the pool to practice. To get used to the fact that it's a suit, sensations, suffocations... And then there are four other practices in the sea and the fifth free!
