[Past, present and future of the vaccine]

The vaccine against smallpox is considered to be one of the most important discoveries in the field of public health. It changed the way we were dealing with diseases and opened up new ways of dealing with new diseases. Currently, the vaccine is the most effective preventive measure available to combat infectious diseases. Eider Abasolo, Professor of Public Health at the UPV/EHU, tells us about the past and present of vaccinations, and the need and importance of vaccination programs.
