Talent as a raw material

the theme of the 2008 Science Week is ‘Talent as Raw Material’. In this regard, we have asked several guests specific questions in their usual environment and prepared a report. The guests are: Jon Zarate, director of the consultancy Human; Cruz Garmendia, mechanic; Amaia Zubiria, singer; Guillermo Roa, science journalist; and Jon Altuna, professor at Mondragon Unibertsitatea.

Natural resources are a necessary raw material for the development of scientific research, but human talent is just as important as natural resources.

This year, Science Week has chosen people’s creativity, effort and human abilities as the focus of its eighth edition, and at Teknopolis we have wondered what human abilities, human talent is. Some say that every time we put love

and commitment into any action, we express true talent. Others say that a talented person is not the one who has a lot of ideas, but the one who knows how to profit from the crumbs he has. We have asked five people from very different backgrounds to reflect on talent.
