Mountains of Switzerland

Permanent and untrammeled snow, and peaks above 4000 meters... this is the appearance of one of the most striking landscapes of the Swiss Alps. Eremu honek Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietchhorn du izena, eta mendiek, haranek eta glaziarrek osatzen dute. It is located in the cantons of Bern and Valais.

This natural environment covers an area of 54,000 hectares and has been included in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List since 2001. Its beauty, the diversity of the alpine fauna and flora and its geological richness: these are the reasons that have led this site to the UNESCO list. This is the largest glacier in Europe. It is born in the Aletsch massif and makes its way under the snowy peaks for 23 km. it has an ice cap of 900 meters deep.

95% of this region is virgin. only 5% have been transformed by humans. In this little part, pedestrian trails, ski slopes and chairlifts have been installed... as well as a spectacular science station that was inaugurated ten years ago with a panoramic terrace: It's the Sphinx Observatory. In this small building, at an altitude of 3500 meters, scientists investigate the progression of glaciers, the effects of climate change and the physics of the environment. There is no building in Europe that has been built at such a high altitude.

The beauty of this Alpine landscape is immense. In winter, the valley wears white snow, and in spring, they show a bright green color. This mountain train, however, is part of the landscape during the four seasons... Jungfraubhan is a famous railway. Even the most violent snowstorm would not stop this nineteenth-century engineering work.

The railway is a reflection of the spirit of the time when it was built. it was built in 1896, during the height of romanticism and the exaltation of nature. It was in those years that people began to hear for the first time the stories that travelers told about the wonders of nature, waterfalls and glaciers. The appearance of the first tourists to the mountain in Switzerland encouraged the development of the region. This is how the railway project was born. The train starts its journey at an altitude of 2000 meters and goes up to 3500, to the Jungfraucoch station. It is the highest railway station in Europe.
