A new computer
program helps astronauts navigate problems with their crew or colleagues on Earth. Developed by astronaut Jay Buckey and psychologist Jim Carretero, the software addresses potential emotional issues that can arise during a long space journey.
“The atmosphere during long space travel is very important. If you have a problem, you can’t go anywhere else, it has to be solved to have the best possible relationships.”
Using software developed by NASA, astronauts work on situations that can arise during long-term journeys. It could also be a valuable self-help system for use in submarines, ships or polar research bases.
Innovations That Will Change Your Lifestyle
IBM has released a list of innovations that can change our lifestyle over the next five years. The list has been drawn up taking into account market fluctuations, societal trends and new technology opportunities.
New uses of solar energy in asphalt or buildings, opportunities for on-line doctor visits, new relationships with websites, or new ways of shopping, for example, will become commonplace and will radically change the way we live today, according to IBM.
According to a study by
the Austrian government on the safety of GMOs, the safety of GMO foods cannot be guaranteed. The tests that the researchers there have done with laboratory rats. they have been fed transgenic maize for 20 weeks and have found that the size and weight of offspring born during the period has decreased.
The rats were fed the GE maize variety of the multinational Monsanto, one of the maize varieties authorized for cultivation in Europe.
'.tel', virtual business card
Numerous email addresses, mobile and landline phone numbers, work websites, blogs... forms of communication have multiplied in the information society. In a business card it would be difficult to collect all this information.
Starting this week, the option to apply for a .tel domain has been opened worldwide. In this domain, it will be possible, through a template and without computer knowledge, to make virtual cards of both companies and individuals, adding all the contact details.
Thus, in the network, it is desired to build a world-wide directory. It would be equivalent to a new network of these pages, accessible from any device with access to the Internet.
A company may, for example, advertise the telephone numbers and postal addresses of its subsidiaries and departments without designing a website. Individuals can do the same in the new domain. In fact, it’s much easier to remember an address like www.joniturbe.tel than email, phone number, or other addresses.
Although three satellites
are still in orbit, Russia’s Glonass navigation system is already available and in its final stretch. in 2009 the system will offer full coverage, so Russia will bypass the GPS.
Glonass 24 is based on a satellite network. The satellites are located at an altitude of 19,100 kilometers, divided into three groups of 8 satellites. Each satellite transmits two navigation signals with the possibility of knowing the position of the receivers in real time and without the restriction of accuracy.
