Oñati, symbol of energetic independence

In Oñati, we could say that the energy transition began a century ago. We visited the hydroelectric power plant in Olat, since this infrastructure of
120 years ago can be an example of how to face the energy challenges of the future. There is
a growing demand for energy in the world and increasing the weight of fossil energies is no longer an option. The energy of the future must be based on clean and renewable sources, and to this end, hydropower plants will be of great
importance.

Olate’s hydroelectric power plant produces 15 million kW/year, which is what Oñati’s homes, businesses and public lighting consume.
Oñati is energetically sovereign.
