The virtual stages

The BKOOL system allows you to place your bike on rollers and provide virtual routes.

NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: Hello to Xabier!

XABIER MURIEL; Usabal Technification Center: Hello, good afternoon!

NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: What a noise here!

XABIER MURIEL; Usabal Technification Center: They are involved in the competition and that is normal.

NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: What are they doing?

XABIER MURIEL; Usabal Technification Center: The Center and the Pamplona Classics have made an agreement and we are doing the first part of the Pamplona Cycling Classics. We have put the race online in two rounds: one at five in the afternoon and one at seven, and the five are just starting.

NAGORE REMENTERIA; Elhuyar Foundation: It should be noted that we are in Tolosa in the Usabal Technification Center, and here you have this special room.

XABIER MURIEL; Usabal Technification Center: Here we have ten rollers connected to each other on line, each one brings its own bike (today there are those of the Oria cycling school, not all). This is where they do a very real road simulation on a roller.

In the case of N. A. is: Yes, but as I see it, the computer is also necessary, right?

X. According to M.: The good and bad thing about this system is the need for the computer. In the latter case, the software and hardware work connected. Previously there were rollers connected to the computer; the novelty here is that to this is added the use of the Internet. They are all connected to the Internet via WiFi. There's eight in the race right here, but I've looked at it before and there's four more on the outside coming in from their homes. In this case they are making their way from Zizur to Etxauri, which we have previously recorded by GPS. The roller is equipped with an electromagnetic brake that makes it harder or softer depending on the slope. The precision of this roller is special because, as in cycling, it softens if you go one after the other. Some go after others, so it's easier. That’s where we put them on the screen where each one goes.

It can be said that the Bkool system already existed, it was created a few years ago but for individual use at home, and we proposed to put it in the group. They thought it was a very good idea. It was designed and developed, and the software was adapted only on-line, from home to home, partly for the possibility of doing ten right here.

In the case of N. A. is: Is the feeling quite real?

X. According to M.: It should be noted that this is a roller, and the problem for cyclists like all rollers is that lateral movements are not present. It's the most real roller known to remove that. The system is a bit special. If you know the other rollers, they usually have three legs, but this roller exerts its force according to the weight of each one. So everyone's weight is important here, like on the doorbell. Then it is very real, and then the plateau is not the zero brake but has a value, and on the low slope the brake is set to zero, and then the low slope goes much easier. Look, some of them are going downhill right now and you'll see how they feel. You see it on the screen, it now goes on a 3% ramp at 22 km/h and 122 watts. This other one's going down a 1% slope... Then it looks like a game!

Another option that this one has is the video, that’s why it’s popular. In this case it is the circuit of Montmeló. The curve is going to the right.

X. According to M.: The parameters seen here are: power, hence the speed and energy expenditure according to the weight of the slope and the cyclist.

In the case of N. A. is: Here I see the time, how long it takes...

X. According to M.: How long it takes, how long it would stop if this speed were to be maintained and the percentage of the slope.

In the case of N. A. is: Do I need a name?

X. According to M.: Here are two variants: if you want to use it in your home you have to buy a roller and register in the same Bkool, it is a social network and it registers which races you have made, ports, etc. Anyone can come to our center
