The Daltonism

A short video about Daltonism. Especially since it affects men, it talks about the genetic defect that causes the disease.

The Daltonism

eight out of every 100 men are unable to perceive colors correctly, while in women it is very rare for this to happen. Daltonism, therefore, as a liquor, is a matter of men.

Daltonism is caused by a defect in the X chromosome. Men have only one X chromosome. If it is defective, we will be daltonic, we will be condemned to live in a world of few colors.

Since women have two X chromosomes, the fact that one is flawless frees them from disease. A female would have to have the defect in both X chromosomes to have daltonism. For this to happen, the father should be daltonic and the mother should be either daltonic or carrier. Of course, the probability of this happening is not very high.

Therefore, daltonism makes a distinction between the sexes. The female can easily be a carrier of the defect, but is hardly daltonic.

Daltonism also has more distinctions because not all cases of the disease are the same. In the most extravagant extreme cases, like Charlot’s films, in black and white, the world is seen by those affected. The most common effects, however, are usually different: difficulties in seeing a certain color, confusion of colors, separation of colors but not tonalities, etc. Therefore, it is said that Daltonism is not a disease, but the seeing of colors in a different way.
