BTEK, Technology in Life
At the back of BCAM’s round building in Zamudio Technology Park, two pyramids rise up into the sky, inviting you to discover the interiors of the world of science and technology. It is the headquarters of BTEK, the new Zamudio Technology Interpretation Center.
It's just spectacular. And if it is visible from the outside, the interior takes the visitor to a new world.
AINHOA VILLAMANTE; Director of Interior Design Project: After knowing all the obligations of the modules that were intended to be organized in the project, the field began to be created. First, the technology itself was a bait for creativity. It was like channeling history, creating enclosures that took you by surprise and clearly showed what you wanted to explain in each room.
It opens the door to another world, this project carried out by the Elhuyar Foundation. A long and dark passage immerses us in a contemporary and technological environment, between the walls bathed by the rain of 1 and 0.
The entrance ticket takes us on a journey to showcase cutting-edge work at technology companies in the Basque Country. The philosophy of the center is to learn through play and emotions. The first site of the trip is the network and the digital world.
This site focuses on binary language, machine capacity and/or network usage.
AITZIBER LASA- Elhuyar Foundation; Director of the Museography Project: The digital world today absorbs us, the world is becoming more and more digital. BTEK is the Technology Interpretation Centre that we wanted to understand first, or show, how the digital world itself works. Starting from the language, we wanted to show the speed, the capacity and then the guts inside the digital tools.
The Zamudio Park companies, the scientific journals that are launched and the latest news about science and technology have been received at the BTEK kiosk.
This is the second space: they have opened the doors of the house of the future and gathered here the inventions and technological advances that are used in it and throughout the planet.
The applications of domotics that are familiar to almost everyone, the latest new materials used in the manufacture of tools, the processes that food undergoes before reaching our table and the steps that have been carried out in lighting and air conditioning are explained graphically and didactically in this space.
We're tearing it apart as we advance along the walkway that leads to the second floor. And it is necessary, because nanotechnology opens the door to know the other worlds that surround it. Here you will become aware of the magnitude and importance of smallness.
Also how difficult it is to work with such small subjects.
Neighbour of nanotechnology, biotechnology. The field of technology that is based on living beings will help to understand the effects of research on issues that are close to them.
AITZIBER LASA-Elhuyar Foundation; Director of the Museography Project:It relates to areas where biotechnology can be applied, such as health, food, industry and other applications.
On the other hand, it was also important for us to provide tools and information for ethical discussions on such high-level issues.
And next to the intelligence of man, the development of artificial intelligence created by him, ready to compete.
Accurate and efficient. This robotic arm shows how helpful the machines are. Also how many different uses it can have.
During the visit, researchers working daily in the technology and science companies of the Basque Country will accompany you.
XABIER DIEZ; Director of BTEK: In it we will have the opportunity both in the virtual and in the real, because our intention is to bring them here in the area, right here in Labein, in Ikerlan, in Gaiker..., to bring the existing researchers and share their experiences with the students, how they have gone abroad, how they have been working so much, and how they have returned and what interesting works they are working on.
There are proposals for all ages in BTEK, since science and technology arouse the curiosity of all, but the center is especially aimed at young people.
XABIER DIEZ; Director of BTEK: To bring young people closer to the technological world, if they are close to it, is not only to bring them closer, but also to introduce them a little, so that they can participate not only as users, but also on other levels.
It is clear that in recent years, both in our environment and in Europe, there have been fewer and fewer technology students, fewer students in technology careers, and we want to encourage that a little bit.
If, at the end of the visit, it has been possible to awaken curiosity for science and technology and promote vocation, the purpose of this interesting journey will be fulfilled.
The return to BTEK will not only serve to remember what we saw the first time, but will also serve to remind us of the latest advances in science and technology that have taken place since the last visit.
