The year of visitation

The year of visitation

If we take a look at this year’s calendar, we will find one more day at the end of February: precisely next Friday. In fact, the year 2008 is a visa, which means that it has 366 days and not 365.

The reason is quite simple: The Earth, to give the full return of the Sun, takes a little more than a year: 365 days, 6 hours and 8 minutes. Therefore, in order for the solar year to coincide with the calendar year, every four years, these six "surplus" hours are collected and a full day is completed. This day is added to the shortest month.

But what about those eight minutes that are hanging? Well, it takes 400 years for those minutes to complete a full day. Every 400 years is a year. The Julian calendar established in the year 45 BC did not take into account this second error and, by the time of the arrival of the 16th century, it was a cumulative imbalance of 11 days. Our Gregorian calendar also has a small error of a few seconds, which means that it will have to be corrected within 3000 years.

Throughout history, the Visanas have created numerous myths. One of them says that on the 29th of February the dish also turns into a bisusto and that those who eat too much do not feel guilty. That special day will be next Friday. So do it well!
