Recording vinyl records

With the appearance of so many technological devices on the market lately, it seemed that the end of physical media would come... but vinyl records are selling more and more.

Most of us have over 200 songs in our MP3. With the appearance of so many technological devices on the market lately, it seemed that the end of physical media would come... but vinyl records are selling more and more. In

the opinion of many experts, the sound of vinyl offers much more nuance when compared to other supports. There are very few places where the recording of vinyl records is done today and, as you will see, it is completely handmade.

Andreas Lubich is a sound engineer from Berlin. The emerald band has just received the recording made in the studio and is going to record the music on the vinyl record.

First, you need to master the received magnetic tape: adjust some frequencies, clean the noise, set the volume, measure the intensity of the musical instruments... Mastering is a very important task because it has a great impact on the quality of the sound that will be released.

As with all sounds, the music is created by vibrations caused by the air. These vibrations take the form of a wave on the screen that will be printed on the disc.

Andreas chooses an aluminum disc coated with acetate to record music. It is placed in the winch and, by means of a engraving needle, makes a cut of the disc in the same shape as the sound wave. With the microscope, it checks the groove left by the needle and finally signs the disc and writes the identification number manually.

This is where the artisanal work of the recording ends. The new Esmeralda disc is ready to be shipped to the factory. There, the master made by Andreas will be extracted and made copies for commercialization.
