#16 ULTRAVIOLET WAVES: Placebo and nocebo

We are all aware of the placebo effect: the benefit of a substance or treatment, even if it does not have the potential to have an effect. The opposite also happens: to be damaged by something that doesn’t have an effect on its own. This is known as the nociceptive effect.

The concepts of placebo and nocebo, the mechanisms through which they occur, and how to use them ethically have been studied by Alaitz Ochoa de Eribe Aguirre and Ana Galarraga Aiestarán, from Elhuyar.

The episode is completed with the news of science and technology, inviting the audience to guess what the mysterious sound is and some claims that are correct or incorrect.

The podcast is produced by ELHUYAR for the podcast EITB.
