Uzuri Albizu Mallea: Places where mathematics, education and gender intersect

Uzuri Albizu Mallea is the protagonist of this session of the cycle "In the light of women scientists". Albizu has made a thesis entitled "Places where mathematics, education and gender intersect", about which he has talked with Ana Galarraga Aiestarán.

According to him, it is widespread in society that only particularly intelligent people can learn and understand mathematics. Usually, in addition, a man embodies this stereotypical image of the genius. This has an impact on students: at the age of six, girls already underestimate their ability and close some paths to the future.

It is necessary to change the values that adhere to mathematics so that it is not in the hands of a few. In fact, as Uzuri Albizu says: “Science is power, so feminists can’t ignore it.”

Elhuyar and Donostia Kultura together offer the cycle "In the light of women scientists".
