1991/04/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria
One of the actions carried out during the Gulf War has been the creation of a black tide. Although the objective of this action has been military, the ecological massacre has been enormous. This action has meant the death of thousands of birds and fish. On television, images of the black tide have been seen. In these images appeared the birds dressed in oil.
In the Persian Gulf there are many types of birds. Some live there and others remain alone during a time of the year. The most affected species will be the ones that inhabit, that is, the endemic ones. Among them are the cormorants of Sokotra. The black tide has drastically reduced the population of cormorant, and there are those who say that if the appropriate measures are not taken they are endangered.
