In the large cave discovered in the French village of Arcy-sur-Cure, in the French department of Yonne, paintings for wall drawings were mixed with the bear phalanx. That is what suggests at least the excavation carried out in April by Michel Girard and Dominique Baffier.
It is not clear what the rest of the animal remains were used for. In fact, bear teeth, deer branches, horse phalanxes, etc. have been found and do not seem to be like food waste.
The paintings and engravings that occupy the walls and ceiling are very deteriorated and sophisticated techniques must be used to stand out.
The animals drawn are very different: mammoths, rhinos, bears, bird drawn in red, etc. In the rest of the caves of the Palaeolithic appear drawn animals hardly visible.
