The MPEG-7 is an established standard for describing various multimedia information. With this description we can prepare search systems for images or exact words that can be in audiovisual files, as is usually done in any database, using keywords. This standard allows the description of the multimedia, as it explains the contents through keywords and semantic understanding.
This new standard can support indexing tools to form large data banks with audiovisual materials (still images, graphics, videos, audios, etc.) and allows quick searches in these databases.
Background
Others prior to this standard. The MPEG-1 standard stored and downloaded audiovisual files. Then came the MPEG-2, which would be used for digital television and the MPEG-4, which encoded audio and video as an object. The new standard does not replace the previous ones, it uses them.
The way it works can be as follows: using an application you can save the description of various video or audio files using the MPEG-7. To do this, the XML format saved in this format is used. The saved description will not only reflect the contents of the file, but also other information: compression type, rights, classification, links to similar material, text environment, etc. In this way, search engines can quickly search for different keys.
Descendants
The standards that the MPEG group works on do not end there. The next standard in preparation is the MPEG-21. This allows you to control all the elements surrounding the multimedia process. The MPEG-21 describes the elements that will appear throughout the process: computers, networks to use, etc. Little by little the future of multimedia is increasingly shaping.
