You're an ornithologist at Urdaibai Bird Center, Edorta. What is the star of Urdaibai, the fisher eagle?

I’m often asked, “What is your most loving bird?” That would be like choosing between children. I don't know, they're all interesting, they're all adorable.

But yes, we've worked a lot with the eagle fisherman here. We are honored to have the Eagle Fisherman around us. Many will remember: two or three years ago we had a litter in Urdaibai and we installed a webcam. We were just confined to the coronavirus. We spent too much time at home and decided to give people a window of this nature. Everyone in the area followed the daily life of the fisher eagles through the webcam, like a Big Brother or a Big Brother, showing us the details of the family. But in the end, the puppies died in a storm.

People talked about him a lot on the street, it was amazing. It went viral, we received millions of visitors. It was the first to reproduce and grow in Urdaibai and throughout the Cantabrian Slope.

Three eggs were laid. One of the three was an albino. For the first time we saw an albino bird, an albino eagle. Too bad he died. Nature is like that, often cruel. The others prospered, but as I said, they later died of a storm and hypothermia.

Where did those fishers of eagles come from?

We brought the eagle threads from Scotland, but most of them went back. Some settled in the area of Santander, where they have been having chicks for several years. About eight have already been born, and we are still here, without eagles.
