Iceland in cold

In the last month the images of this island have been seen everywhere. The chaos caused by air traffic has turned Eyjafjallajökull into a famous cloud of ashes thrown by the volcano. It's not a bad excuse to head for the island, as even if there are no ashes, Iceland is quite spectacular.
Warm interior and cold exterior. North of the Atlantic Ocean, Iceland is very close to the Arctic Circle. Glaciers, ice and snow are common elements. As snow melts, numerous rivers and streams form. In Iceland, there are spectacular rivers, ponds, lakes and waterfalls.
Many of these wells are hot water. Iceland boils the interior. All over the island there are more than 600 hot springs, some with waters over 150 degrees. 89% of Icelandic households are heated with groundwater.

The Eyjafjallajökull is a clear exponent of this inner heat. It is one of 35 active volcanoes in Iceland. In March the lava spill began and, after a stop, on April 14 the volcano was lit again to launch the famous ash cloud.
