Why renewable energy?
2001/01/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria
If we look at the green book published by the European Commission, the increase in renewable energy will not stop in the next ten years. 41% of the energy currently consumed in the European Union comes from oil, 22% from natural gas, 16% from solid fossil fuels, 15% from nuclear energy and 6% from renewable energies. In 10 years the percentage of the latter will only reach 7% and not 12% as indicated in the white paper.
The only way to boost renewable energy is to reduce taxes and increase aid, and the oil, gas and nuclear sector proposes to allocate some of the benefits to renewables. At the same time, it is noted that nuclear energy does not emit carbon dioxide and is a non-polluting energy source. The closure of the plants has made Europe difficult to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
